Explanation of Types of Massage & Benefits:

Therapeutic Swedish Massage - This massage includes long smooth gliding strokes, trigger point therapy work, kneading, rocking, percussion tapping, friction, bending and stretching. Medium to firm pressure is used. Swedish massage increases the level of oxygen in the blood, increases circulation, helps detox muscles, increases flexibility and melts away tension. This is the most common type of massage.

Deep Tissue - A deep tissue massage is used to target knots and release chronic muscle tension. Deep tissue massage helps reduce inflammation and helps eliminate scar tissue. The primary focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia. This massage uses slow friction and firm pressure techniques across the grain of the muscles. Some stiffness and soreness may occur after receiving a deep tissue massage for 1-2 days.

Relaxation Massage - This technique includes long fluid strokes with medium to light pressure based on the Swedish massage techniques. This massage is intended to relax and relieve stress.

Hot Stone Massage - This massage helps melt away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation. Water-heated, smooth stones are placed at key points on the body to allow for a deeper relaxation of the muscles. A customized massage is used with the hot stones to create a relaxing & warming experience.

Infant Massage - This massage helps relieve colic & digestive system stress. Infant massage is also beneficial for establishing routines, sleep patterns and bonding. The infant massage session is where parents come in with their baby and learn the infant massage hands on from the therapist. Parents are sent home with the written instructions and educational materials about infant massage and the benefits. Group classes are also offered as a service, please call Ashley Potter at (507)530-7008 for more information on group classes.
